A beautifully restored monument with much potential and the IJsselmeer in the backyard.

The Stadeshuys Stavoren is the former town hall of Stavoren. This stately national monument from 1879 is situated in an unusual location: across the stone bridge over the Jol and directly bordering the IJsselmeerdijk. The berth for the sloop is right at the door. From the house you have a wonderful view of the IJsselmeer and the Frisian lakes. You can walk straight onto the dyke from the garden for a lovely stroll and reach the beach within minutes. The marina of Stavoren, supermarket and other facilities are close by. And did you know that Stavoren has the most hours of sun in the Netherlandsô

In 2003, the national monument was carefully restored. In this process, the old council hall with art deco interior and wallpaper paintings from 1776, the mayor’s room with grisaille ceiling and historical paintings and the former municipal archive room (bunker) were left intact. Elements such as panel doors, indoor blinds, herringbone parquet, marble floor tiles, original Frisian white tiles, semi-circular portals, bedstead and pinewood roof structure have been put back or restored to their original state. The property is completely insulated (including Ytong interior walls and HR++ glass) and contains all modern comforts (including central and floor heating, central vacuum system, heat exchanger installation, 24 solar panels, goods lift and intercom system). Thus, a gorgeous, luxurious and low-maintenance national monument with a low utility bill!

The left part of the building used to serve as residence of the mayor; the right part served as town hall. The original layout has mostly been maintained. Thanks to the 2003 renovation, in which the attic floor was transformed into a beautiful penthouse, the Stadeshuys is now immensely suitable for, for example, double occupancy or a Bed & Breakfast.

Ground floor
A long open hallway leads from the entry hall to the back of the mayor’s residence. To the right of this are a toilet and pantry with hardstone floor, to the left the stairs to the first floor and doors to three rooms. On the street side is a living room, in the middle an upstairs room with a goods lift that can be used as an office or dining room and in the back a luxurious kitchen containing all modern appliances, including Quooker, Miele steamer and plate warmer.

The first door on the right in the entry hall leads to the former town clerk’s office, now a spacious room with connection for a gas stove, warm/cold water and outlet. In the back is the entrance to the former town archives. This bunker has a separate toilet and urinal and a space with shower, sink and floor heating that can be used as bedroom, gym or wellness space.

First Floor
In the entry hall, a flight of stairs leads up to the old council hall and mayor’s room on the first floor. The stairs are covered with blue woolen carpet and the coat of arms of Stavoren woven in on the landing. The old council hall and its historical ambiance are perfectly suitable for meetings and as a library or bedroom.
The Zuiderzee suite is comprised from the former mayor’s room which is also a bedroom with balcony (view of the IJsselmeer). Adjacent is a spacious bathroom with double sink, rain shower, clawfoot bath and marble floor with floor heating.
From the Zuiderzee suite, you arrive on the landing of the mayor’s residence, covered with the same beautiful carpet. Stairs lead to the hallway below and to the penthouse in the attic.
Straight ahead is the Jol suite with patio doors to the balcony with morning sun. The suite has an original wooden floor, a side room with separate rain shower and a custom made closet with a hanging space and shelves and a part with installation technology.

The penthouse under the imposing oaken roof structure is lined with 13 Velux skylights. Here, a large open living space with seating area, kitchen with cooking island and eating area in the roof cabin can be found, where you’ll feel like a captain on a ship due to the fantastic view. There are also find three cosy bedrooms here (one with an old bedstead) and a bathroom with floor heating.

The house has a gate and going around the back leads to a neatly laid out garden located south with spacious terraces and an open shed. On the roof of the archive bunker is an elevated terrace with a floor of Iroko wood, with view of the IJsselmeer.
