Presently the Palmela Palace is an icon of Cascais Bay, one of the most beautiful architectural pieces, set in 3,000 sqm of gardens, standing out for its location above the beach, with a swimming pool that “sails” over the Atlantic Ocean.
With built area of 2,500 sqm, Palmela Palace comprises a ground floor, where the service areas were originally situated; the noble halls with elaborate ceilings and the main rooms are located on the first and second floors. There is also a large attic area suitable for more rooms once having been the staff quarters. The current remember that, in days gone by there would be more than 25 permanent staff employed. The whole property has over 40 rooms.
Designed and originally built only to be used by the servants, the basement is composed of a room and pantry with an arch covered in stone, plastered and painted ceilings and tiled walls. In the basement, there´s a living room with a mezzanine, a kitchen, a dining room, 3 bedrooms with stone floors, and a laundry (an old kitchen), also with tiled walls. Though the exterior of this unique Palace displays the magnificence of this location, it is upon arriving at the large entrance hall, through the main solid wood door with antique bronze fittings, one realises how incredible this Palace really is. White and black marble stone floors and a large and impressive staircase with exotic wood risers. After passing through the large hall, on this floor you will find the main living room, a piano room, an office, stone fireplaces, a large dining room – to which was given great attention to detail – a chapel with walls covered with XVIII century hand painted tiles, amongst other rooms. Most of the places rooms floor have superb ocean views over the bay of Cascais. It is through the ground floor that one has access to an interior area with a garden, a swimming pool, and swimming pool changing rooms.
Upon ascending the imposing staircase from the entrance hall, one arrives at the first floor. Composed of a south facing living roo m enjoying unique ocean views and full of natural light.
