Named after a pretty seaside village in Cornwall, Crantock is a striking family home that occupies a very picturesque semirural location almost equidistant between the thriving city of Lincoln and market town of Grantham. “The original bungalow was built by a previous owner back in the 1960s, and when my husband and I originally came to view it, it was really quite plain,” says the owner. “But it’s beautifully positioned on the edge of Fulbeck, which is a picturesque little village, and the outlook from the back of the house is really quite special. I remember the first time I walked in and there was this huge picture window with a view that seemed to go on forever; I was completely taken aback and I think it was at that point that I knew we’d found the house for us. It was a property that definitely needed imagination, but it had an absolute wealth of potential and I’d say that that potential has more than been realised.”

“The property is built into a slope, so from the front it looks like a modern bungalow, but from the back it’s anything but. We were able to add a two-storey extension, which gave us a large office/bedroom, and underneath a big double bedroom that’s level with the garden with glazed sliding doors that lead out to a pretty patio area. We also updated elements such as kitchen and bathrooms, but the most dramatic change came with the addition of a stunning conservatory. It’s raised from ground level and has a beautiful vaulted ceiling and huge apex windows that bring in a breathtaking panorama of the grounds and countryside beyond. The room leads out from both the dining hall and the kitchen so you can enjoy the view from virtually every room in the house.”

“The garden and grounds are another wonderful feature of the property,” continues the owner. “We have almost three acres, and as well as a large paddock, which is peppered with beautiful mature trees, there are a number of lovely places to sit out, relax and entertain. There’s a large raised patio terrace with a pretty pergola that’s festooned with wisteria – the smell is heavenly – and from there, steps lead down to a sweeping lawn at the end of which is a ha-ha. We added it to enhance the view so the garden almost appears to meld with the paddock.”

“I tend to have winter quarters and summer quarters; it’s definitely a house for all seasons. When the weather is warm I tend to gravitate to the garden room where I can sit and enjoy those spectacular views, but when it’s cold and miserable outside I’ll take myself off to the lounge. It still has the views, but it also features a wood-burning stove, which creates such a warm and cosy atmosphere.”

“I’ve lived in Lincolnshire all my married life and I absolutely love it here; it’s such a beautiful part of the country. Fulbeck itself is a lovely little village with a friendly community, and although the immediate surroundings are really quite rural it’s very easy to access all the things needed on a day-to-day basis. I tend to head into Newark, which is a super little town and it’s only a twenty-minute drive from here.”

“There is indeed a huge amount of outside space, which I have relished, and it’s surprisingly easy to maintain. We’ve always had an arrangement with a farmer who grazes his sheep in the paddock so we’ve never had to worry about cutting the grass.”

“I’ve decided that the time is right to downsize; I now have a little too much space here, both inside and out, but I will be sad to leave,” says the owner. “In terms of what I’ll miss most, I have to say the views. It’s so lovely to be able to look out and see nothing but green for as far as the eye can see.”

Fulbeck is a pretty village located off the A607 with convenient access for Grantham, Newark on Trent, Sleaford and the cathedral city of Lincoln. Fulbeck has a renowned restaurant and the former stables to the Manor are run as a series of craft shops including a cafe, gift shop, saddler, bike shop and tool shop. Local facilities are available in the neighbouring villages of Leadenham and Caythorpe and include Primary Schools in both villages, a farm shop, petrol station with Spar shop together with a post office in Leadenham and a local shop with a post office in Caythorpe. There is also a Doctor's Surgery, two public houses.
