Edgehill was built in 2002 of harled construction under a red tiled roof. The design was conceived by Groves Raines Architects and incorporates a circular tower which is notable externally and provides wonderful living space internally. It has an almost Mediterranean feel to it with balconies to the first floor bedrooms and terraces outside the main reception rooms.
The front of the house with its courtyard and circular tower creates a strong impression. The terraced garden to the rear, enclosed within the L shape of the house and swimming pool, is more understated and private.
The house has been finished to an exemplary standard. Luxury features include solid oak flooring, cast iron radiators, an automated Lutron lighting system operated via keypads and audio distribution in the principal rooms and rear garden.
The property is approached via electronic gates. A courtyard provides extensive parking and access to the ground floor.
The entrance hall has a cloakroom off connecting to a circular bedroom with en suite bathroom. The central hall gives access to a cloakroom with WC, a bar with fridge and sink and a cinema with surround sound, mood lighting and eight fixed seats. There is a wine cellar, a media room and a playroom / gym with a plant room.
A magnificent stairway leads up to the principal floor which is also accessed by a side hall with a WC off. The reception rooms are arranged around the stairway hall and comprise a stunning drawing room with circular tower which connects to the sitting room through double doors. Both these reception rooms have white marble fireplaces and recessed bookshelves. They can be opened up for entertaining or divided to create more intimate space. There is a dining room beside with Adam style wooden mantel.
The kitchen / breakfast room has black marble flooring and granite topped units and is fitted with a series of units including an island that incorporates a Gaggenau range with an extractor hood, an oven, grill, integrated dishwasher and an American style fridge freezer.
There are doors from the drawing room, dining room and kitchen to a covered terrace outside which connects to the garden.
A separate utility room houses two washing machines and a tumble dryer. A corridor provides access to the pool house that includes an 11 metre swimming pool, a shower and steam room and a filter/store room. There is a pump room and garage beside.
The stairway continues to the first floor. The principal bedroom has a circular bed chamber, dressing area with extensive fitted wardrobes and a luxurious en suite bathroom finished in marble with a freestanding bath.
There are three further bedrooms on this floor served by a bathroom and en suite shower room. The principal bedroom has its own balcony. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a balcony.
The staircase continues to the second floor and a circular bedroom that has stunning panoramic views via six oval windows. There is a further bedroom and bathroom.
Edgehill is set in an enclosed, landscaped garden extending to 0.39 acres.
In front of the house is the courtyard with a ramp rising to the garage and side door at principal floor level. Above the courtyard is a rockery with a cobbled pathway and colourful plantings including heather and magnolia.
The terrace runs along the west side of the house with a wonderful outlook to Gullane Hill. Outside the kitchen is a covered area ideal for al fresco dining. Behind is a paved courtyard garden protected and given complete privacy by the swimming pool and a high hedge. There are walls around with shrubs.
Steps lead up to a lawn with a timber deck in the top corner with established plants, trees and shrubs including a sycamore tree.
