Location
Located in the heart of the countryside in St Mary's Parish, this stunning country house, sits in approximately 20 vergees of land and offers plenty of space and solitude, yet close to the local village, schools and all the amenities.
Description
La Tenure is approached along a granite-walled, tree-lined drive and offers total privacy in an idyllic country location.
It was bought by the present owners 25 years ago, sympathetically restored with improvements to the layout whilst retaining original features, including the elegant mahogany staircase, oak beams, original fireplaces, and bread oven.
A large new open-plan kitchen and dining area was created, with bespoke Haslam oak cabinets and a multi-level island. There is a full range of appliances, including an electric Aga and a Victorian range which is set in its granite fireplace.
Doors lead out to a French stone cobbled patio which is a favourite sunny spot for al fresco dining and enjoying the view across the garden.
The formal dining room with a fine granite fireplace, retains its original window shutters and has oak flooring throughout.
The sitting room can be found on the first floor, also benefiting from a granite fireplace. A huge party/entertaining room with kitchenette has been created on the first floor of the barn. This has its own access as well as a connection to the main house.
The principal bedroom suite is on the first floor, as is the second bedroom which has an adjoining dressing room and bathroom.
The top floor is perfect for teenagers, complete with bathroom and two large bedrooms which have space for seating and a study area.
There is also a really large, floored loft with plenty of head height which can be used for storage or, subject to planning, suitable for conversion.
A separate workshop creates additional space for exploring new hobbies or projects.
There is a play area for children with a slide from a large chestnut tree. At the front of the house, the large lawn edged with flower beds has an apple crusher in place as well as a summer house with raised decks for summer relaxation.
Stunning gardens with ponds, a bridge, a fountain, and a waterfall complete this wonderful property.
La tenure is completely hidden from view, and surrounded by beautiful, landscaped gardens and approximately 20 vergees of its own land.
Directions
From town head west along St Peter's Valley. Follow the valley the whole way until it starts going uphill. Pass Granite Products on your right and keep going. Round the sharp bend to the left, and about 150m up this straight stretch is La Tenue. It is hard to see the entrance which has granite walls and wooden electric gates.
