Unique estate of 20 + 6 hectares in the Ria Formosa, one of the richest ecosystems of Portugal, near Tavira. Some of the best oysters in the country are still produced there today, thanks to the unique location, a real natural purifier. There, the oysters reach their ideal size after only one year (whereas in France it takes three years), and easily reach a weight of between 60 and 100 grams (and up to 500 grams). To understand this estate even more, we need to talk very briefly about its history. The property has been owned by the same family since 1937 and has been used as a tide mill, as a sea salt distillery, organic fish farming, intensive fish farming and now back to the original organic low pressure production of premiu seafood. In 1985 the family entered into a contract with a Norwegian multinational aquaculture company to whom they ceded the exploitation rights of the property for a period of 25 years. And so, in the waters of the Ria Formosa, the largest fish-farm in the country (the 6 hectares) was born. In times past, the site also housed a traditional salt mine and, later, an industrial salt production. Immensely rich in fauna, including endemic fish and crustaceans. It was - for more than a decade - the largest intensive fish farming facility in Portugal. From that intensive fish farming phase, we still keep all the infrastructures on the property, currently unused, and available for projects that can make good use of them. With rational management, the property will easily produce high quality, high yielding products with ROI above the common market rates. It includes a large built up area and properly licensed. Which is rare in the protected area of Ria Formosa, where construction is prohibited. These licensed areas can be used to support production, for tourism or for crossing purposes. Finally, the building mentioned on the property certificate, a traditional tidal mill, is clearly valuable for any high level tourism development. The strengths of this property are the very favourable location with a unique natural wealth, the various built buildings/infrastructure, which can be harnessed or transformed and the great economic/financial potential. The property is 10km from Tavira, 27km from Faro International Airport, 36km from Spain.
