This masseria with trulli is set in the Apulian countryside between Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca. The buildings (roughly 260 sqm in total) house a total of seven bedrooms, six of which are reserved for the guests and one for the owners. The outdoor spaces include a beautiful stone-paved courtyard ideal for events and a garden crossed by walkways leading to the 12 × 8 m swimming pool that recalls the shape of a natural lake.
Services are all available in the town of Ceglie Messapica (3km; 5') and notable centers of Apulia can be reached in just a few minutes.
DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS
The masseria is made up of a master house and four guest bedrooms with private bathroom. The main door opens into an entrance room that also doubles as an office space with its own bathroom. From here one can then enter the spacious living room with vaulted ceiling. This elegant room is connected on one side to the kitchen with dining area and a sitting room that leads in turn into a bright breakfast room for the guests.
Along the longest side wall, the living room leads to a library (easily converted into a bedroom) and, via a corridor, into the master bedroom with its own private bathroom and a generous walk-in closet.
Right next to the owner’s house are two trulli: the bigger one features a bedroom with a small sitting area in an alcove and a bathroom, while the second one is just a cozy bedroom with its own bathroom. At the end of the building, a dependance houses two more bedrooms with their own private bathroom.
At the rear of the masseria are a small storage room and a series of steps leading underground, right under the building, where one can find a natural grotto currently used as a steam room or Turkish bath.
Just outside the main complex are two independent buildings made out of local stone. Nowadays, both of them house a bedroom with bathroom for the guests: the first one is the oldest trullo of the property, dating back to the 1780s, while the second one has been converted from the old water cistern.
STATE AND FINISHES
The property has been finely restored by the current owners, preserving its rustic charm but featuring high-quality finishes that make the property warm and welcoming. In particular, the trulli have been plastered and painted white inside so that light entering from the small windows and the glass door can easily diffuse inside the building.
The masseria still boasts the original vaulted ceilings, that have left exposed without plaster, while the trulli have been restored keeping the original stones visible in a few points to showcase the technique that was used to build these typical Apulian houses.
EXTERIORS
The masseria sits at the center of a 1.7-hectare podere, covered for the most part in gardens and green areas. The building revolves around a spacious paved courtyard, ideal for events and pleasant al fresco moments. The garden enriching the property is dotted with trees and brushes typical of the Mediterranean area, succulent plants and olive trees, typical of the Apulian countryside. These trees can produce between 200 and 300 liters of olive oil per year.
In a quiet and private position north-east from the buildings, is the saltwater 12 × 8 m swimming pool. The basin has an irregular shape that closely resembles a natural pond and the white color of the bottom creates a very charming atmosphere even at night thanks to the lighting system installed. Around the pool is a very relaxing massage area.
At the entrance of the property, just on the left, is a convenient graveled apron that allows guests to securely park their cars during their stay.
