The River Dart is undoubtedly one of Britain's most beautiful tidal estuaries, which springs from the heart of Dartmoor and flows to the south, through the beautiful South Hams region of Devon. The Dittisham Peninsula is approximately 2 miles upstream from the town of Dartmouth. At this point the river is at its widest, being almost a mile wide at high tide making it ideal for dinghy sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. There are numerous deep-water moorings nearby making it an excellent place to keep a yacht, with cruising opportunities to Dartmouth and further afield with Torbay and the Solent to the east and Salcombe, Fowey and Falmouth to the west. The village of Dittisham lies within a Conservation Area and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are two popular pubs (The Ferry Boat and The Red Lion) and a riverside café (The Anchor Stone). The Red Lion has a village shop and post office within it. There are further shopping facilities and restaurants in the nearby towns of Dartmouth and Totnes.Communication links are good with the A38 dual carriageway, approximately 15 miles to the north, providing access to the M5 motorway at Exeter. There are regular rail services to London Paddington from Totnes and Exeter St Davids. Exeter Airport provides an increasing number of flights to UK and International destinations from Exeter Airport.
