An 18th-century cottage and barn in a picturesque setting with amazing views
Set in a spectacular position three hundred metres above sea level, with far-reaching views across the Wye Valley, Llangain cottage and barn have been sensitively restored to create a wonderful three/four bedroom cottage and an open plan barn with mezzanine. The property is reached by an uphill stone track opening on to common land. The property is very private, with a gate to a parking area and approximately half an acre of garden surrounding the buildings. The property was bought in 1995 by the current owners. It was in a ruinous condition with very little roofing or woodwork left. We believe it was last inhabited before the 1st World War and was subsequently used for cows and storage. It was restored, keeping many original features and using local stone. It has been used as a holiday let for the last twenty-five years. The barn, a few yards from the cottage, is open plan with a shower and WC room. A kitchen area with a mezzanine is reached by a steep stair, flagstone floor and open rafters. A Clearview stove and storage heaters supply heating. The cottage's front door opens to a lovely cosy sitting room with carpets, flagstones, and an oak door. Most of the exposed oak beams were fashioned from timber left over after the repair of the roof of St. George's Hall at Windsor Castle! There is a Clearview stove and storage heaters, and the windows look out over the gardens to the views beyond.A couple of steps take you to a well-equipped kitchen with another stove. Beyond the kitchen is a small hall with cupboards for the washing machine, hot water cylinder, etc. A ground-floor bathroom has a bath with shower over, wash basin and WC. A steep stairway leads to a small bedroom/study.The main stairway goes up from the kitchen to the first floor, where there are two double bedrooms and a single bedroom. ServicesWater from a borehole has been tested annually and has a UV filter. Drainage is to a Septic tank and soakaway field. There is mains electricity and good Wifi.
