Nowadays, Altea is the centre of cultural life on the Costa Blanca with its new Arts Centre and Concert Hall (Palau Altea Centre d’Arts). Alongside its many antique shops, there is the orthodox church of Saint Michael built according to traditional Russian architecture and consecrated in 2005.
Altea has a reputation for its famous restaurants located in the Old Town and along the wonderful seafront promenade offering both Mediterranean cooking and international cuisine. Altea celebrates many “Fiestas” and during the last week of September, the biggest parties of Altea and the Moors and Christians parades take place. The streets are alive with different bands, costumes, fireworks, bands and famous singers who sing and play in verbenas until dawn. In August you can enjoy the magnificent Castell de L'Olla, an unforgettable and spectacular firework display that is launched from platforms at sea an experience not to be missed.
