DESCRIPTION OF THE APARTMENT, CONDITION AND FINISHES
The apartment (400 sqm 4,304 sqft, 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms) is located on the second floor of the building, reached by staircase from the condominium entrance. The door of the unit opens to L-shaped entrance hall/corridor that leads to all rooms of the dwelling. The heart of the property are the two large living/dining rooms (one of which actually a repurposed bedroom) that are extremely bright thanks to the large windows that face directly onto the street. Opposite these are the main kitchen, a bathroom and a closet with a service toilet. At either end of the hallway are two bedrooms, one with a private bathroom, the service kitchen with pantry, a large walk-in closet and a double bathroom. If necessary, the kitchen could be converted into an additional bedroom.
The property was fully renovated in 2021 with complete remake of the systems, installation of new generation air conditioning, and replacement of most of the window frames (with the exception of the historical ones on the facade) with new elements fitted with anti-noise glass.
From the kitchen there is an exit to a lovely terrace (14 sqm 151 sqft) overlooking the inner courtyard of the building, where the apartment has a convenient reserved parking space.
HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY
Where the property stands today there were several buildings in the Middle Ages, as well as a large palazzo owned by the Corbinelli family, which in the 16th century endeavored to unify it all (1576) into one large stately building. The building was renovated about a century later by the famous architect Gherardo Silvani, and in 1699 it was finally purchased by the Pannocchieschi dElci family. The latter engaged in major extension and decoration works involving the first and ground floors, where the new entrance and courtyard were built.
The palazzo changed hands only at the beginning of the 20th century, when it was purchased by the Peruzzi de Medici, who carried out a new restoration. In the years immediately following World War I it was owned first by the Gagnosi family and then by the Schippisi family.
The various changes of hands over the centuries have led to the overlapping of styles and decorations although 18th-century elements remain prevalent and the general layout is virtually unchanged from Silvanis work. The faade, on three levels, is punctuated by typical arched windows interspersed with plastered walls, and the coat of arms of the Pannocchieschi dElci family stands out in the center. The courtyard is accessed through an elegant vaulted hallway closed by a gate of 19th-century style.
