Nestled in the picturesque hamlet of Hemington, this charming, detached home, with a history spanning around 200 years, is truly a hidden gem. Thoughtfully extended and lovingly updated throughout the years, it beautifully blends traditional period features with the comforts of modern living, offering a spacious and inviting home that exudes timeless character. Most recently, in 2017/2018, we extended the left side again, creating a beautiful new kitchen. During this renovation, we also converted a bedroom adjacent to the principal suite into an en suite bathroom, giving the house its current layout of five bedrooms. Several internal walls were opened up to create a more spacious, free-flowing feel throughout the home, say the owners. The drive down the hill into Hemington offers breathtaking views, with the iconic Westbury White Horse on the hill visible in the distance from the west side. As you approach the hamlet via its charming, narrow roads, you're greeted by a sense of history, passing by ancient houses and a beautifully converted chapel. It was impossible not to fall in love with this place. The easy access to Bath, along with being surrounded by National Trust properties and the stunning landscapes of the West of England, made it the perfect location. The house, nestled among fields, truly offered an idyllic setting. Set within expansive gardens, complete with a greenhouse to support the fenced vegetable plot, this property boasts stunning views over surrounding fields. It also includes a spacious double garage. The thoughtfully designed layout spans two floors, offering a seamless flow of practical spaces. A laundry and boot room provide added convenience, while a contemporary kitchen and bathroom bring modern touches to this charming home.
We believe the property was once two cottages, with remnants of its history still visible in the form of two spiral staircases and two open hearth fireplaces. Hemington itself dates back to the Doomsday Book of 1066.
The house is surrounded by farmland with scenic pathways for miles. Many evenings, wed stand in the rear garden, watching stars, the space station, and other dark sky events.
The neighbours are very sociable and supportive but not intrusive. Its a truly lovely community to live in.
Peartree Cottage is not only nestled in beautiful countryside near Frome, renowned for its vibrant Sunday market and independent shops, but also offers easy access to Bath. The south side of the city is home to the university, with its excellent sporting facilities.
