In the Chianti Classico region of the province of Siena, amidst the house of a nice Middle Ages village, medieval castle and winery with vineyards and olive grove. This property is located in a dominating panoramic location, with 360-degree views of the surrounding hills, 16 km from Gaiole in Chianti and 12 km from Siena. In Gaiole, lovely small town with 2,700 inhabitants, Baron Bettino Ricasoli developed the Chianti Classico formula forfour blended grape varieties in 1872. Firenze Vespucci airport and Perugia San Francesco airport can be reached in less than one hour and a half, while Pisa-Galilei airport and Bologna-Marconi airport are approx. two hours away.
HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY
The oldest written evidence of the castle dates back to the year 912, but in the property some Etruscan finds and a Roman wall were found. For centuries the castle had been fought over by Siena and Florence for dominance. The estate includes 46.5 ha of land, the castle complex, a maisonette house, a studio apartment, an impressive infinity pool, the wine cellar with office and tasting room and four under-ground garages.
DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS
Inside the castle complex there are 7/8 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, kitchen, hall, dining room, reception halls, historic wine cellar, sitting on a Roman wall inside the Castle and various function rooms. The castle complex includes a guest wing with separate entrance, featuring a kitchen, living/dining rooms, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The construction of a new wine cellar was finished in 2001. In the same building there are offices and an impressive tasting room. The wine cellar is equipped with modern stainless steel machinery, barriques, tonneaux; the fermentation takes place in computer-controlled steel vats.
STATE AND FINISHES
The castle, located inside a medieval village, has been carefully restored with nice materials, respecting the traditional Tuscan materials and the original structures, but adding also services and up-to-date systems. Moreover, during the restoration, most of the vineyards were re-planted with new clones of Sangiovese. Internally, the property has exposed stone walls, brick arches, terracotta floorings, ceilings with chestnut beams and terracotta tiles, while externally it features stone and brick walls, thermally insulated window frames in chestnut with internal shutters in Tuscan style. It is equipped with the most up-to-date electrical, plumbing and heating systems, and it has a security system. The bathrooms are particularly well-finished and well equipped.
The winery has 46.5 hectares of land, of which 12 ha of vineyard, 3 ha of olive grove and 31 ha of woodland etc.
