The Sunshine State of Florida is renowned for its beaches, theme parks, everglades and Latin flavour – a heady mix that makes it a magnet for tourists from right across the globe.

The state capital of Florida, a peninsula positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, is Tallahassee – a medium-sized city with a good reputation for standard of living and as a centre for trade and agriculture.

Yet it’s further south where you’ll find Florida’s real splendour. Hillsborough Beach contains the aptly-named Millionaire’s Mile – a stretch of mansions set amid lush tropical scenery with ocean views. A property here became the most expensive home listed for sale in the US when it went on the market for $139 million.

Just a little further south sits Miami, the Magic City, with its beaches and glamour. From the historic tree-lined streets of Coral Way to the Bohemian Coconut Grove and the exclusive Star Island – reportedly home to Sean Combs, Gloria Estefan and Shaquille O’Neal – this city has the properties to match its natural beauty.

Similar stunning mansions line the coasts – with Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale to the east and Tampa on the west being home to some of the most attractive properties in the whole of the US, yet alone Florida.

Jacksonville, in the north east corner, is the largest city and combines business and culture with the sunshine, surfing and swimming of the south while inland you’ll find Orlando, home of the famous Walt Disney theme park.

In and around Orlando are a number of high quality property hotspots, with the likes of Winter Park and Isleworth being home to gated communities and large lakefront mansions.
