If the global film industry were to have one main residence it would be southern California. The region’s many film festivals are both international and eclectic, and conveniently spread throughout the year — providing ample excuse for movie industry insiders and film fans alike to seek a home in the area.
From the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which runs for 11 days from late January, to the LA Film Festival, which this year occupies a new slot in September — not to mention November’s San Diego Asian Film Festival — there are few pauses for the moviegoer eager to keep up with the industry’s latest offerings.
Coming up on May 18-20 is the OUT Web Fest in West Hollywood — a celebration of web series and short films by and for the LGBT community.
Unsurprisingly, then, many of the region’s homes are connected to the movie industry.
Del Dios Ranch
Built on an estate of some 61 acres, this redwood, glass and marble building appears in an extended scene in the James Belushi comedy K-9 (1989).
Completed in 1972, it offers 360-degree views from its hilltop location in Rancho Santa Fe, about 25 miles north of San Diego.

2515 Boulder Road, Altadena
Situated just 14 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, this Spanish-style villa comprises a two-storey rotunda that opens into the living room, and a total of five bedrooms and four bathrooms over approximately 4,500 sq ft of living space.
