For a garden bolt-hole
This three-bedroom ground-floor flat in London’s Belsize Park has a private garden with an 86 sq ft summer house, which is currently being used as an office. The independent structure has electricity, heating and double glazing and shares its modern design with the recently renovated interiors of the main apartment. The property is on the market for £1.75mn.
For a light-filled studio
Located a 30-minute drive from the Chilean capital Santiago, this six-bedroom property, on the market for $1.54mn, was the home of architect Alberto Sartori. In addition to a swimming pool and sheltered patio area, the garden features a large independent office room with floor-to-ceiling windows. The property also features a Jacuzzi and sauna to help you wind down after a day of work.
For a pleasant commute
This 12-bedroom, 155-acre estate in New Jersey (main picture, top) was once known as Vliettown Village and dates back to the 18th century. It consists of the main residence, a farmhouse, a cottage, farm office, 24-stall stable and, on a 7-acre island, an artist's studio that can be used as a home office. The bridge that accesses the island echoes the style of the original bridge that crossed the Lamington River to give access to the village. The property, which is priced at $10.5mn, also includes two 30-acre buildable plots.
For a fully appointed workspace
Modernist architect and student of Le Corbusier, Otto Glaus was given free rein to design this four-bedroom villa in Heerbrugg, near the Swiss border with Austria. Built in 1954 and sensitively renovated in 2017, the property follows the Modulor, the anthropometric scale of proportions devised by Le Corbusier, and features a large living room with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glazing. In addition to the wine cellar, swimming pool and air-raid shelter, there is a large separate office building with a bathroom, kitchenette and archive. The property is on the market for SFr3.65mn ($4.1mn).
For a breath of fresh air
This recently completed seven-bedroom villa is located on La Gorce Island, a private community in Miami Beach and includes access to a large private dock. The home, which is on the market for $75mn, features finishes including travertine and Japanese white oak, as well as a 1,800 sq ft master suite. Outside, there is an infinity swimming pool with a Jacuzzi and kitchen. The custom-built office, while connected to the rest of the property via a corridor, can be opened to the outdoor space by pushing back two of the walls, giving direct access to the water feature and large planter — a different take on the garden office.
